Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944)
Kandinsky was born in Moscow where he started - and completed - studies in law. Armed with a PhD in law he decides on a total change of direction and becomes a painter, living in Munich from 1896. In 1901 he becomes a co-founder of the artists' group "Phalanx". His artistic life takes him to Murnau, The Blue Rider, Moscow, the Bauhaus school and exile in France where he dies in 1944.
