The 1930s were in many respects one of the most difficult decades in American history. With failing crops and the stock market crash of 1929, unemployment and poverty were wide-spread.
And yet, during this decade, a new architectural style flourished and artists were exploring their American identity through realism and abstraction as well as rural and urban themes.
