1930s American Art
To tie in with the Royal Academy's upcoming exhibition 'America after the Fall: Painting in the 1930s', we take a closer look at American art during this troublesome decade.

The 1930s were in many respects one of the most difficult decades in American history. With failing crops and the stock market crash of 1929, unemployment and poverty were wide-spread.

And yet, during this decade, a new architectural style flourished and artists were exploring their American identity through realism and abstraction as well as rural and urban themes.

Take a look at our selection of paintings from this fascinating decade.
