New on the World Heritage List
Hamburg's Speicherstadt is now a World Heritage Site. Built from 1885 to 1927, the area is the largest single warehouse district in the world.
The Kontorhausviertel, also in Hamburg, has been included in the latest UNESCO list as well. Built between 1920 and 1940, the Kontorhausviertel, in the south-east of Hamburg's old town, is a wonderful example of Brick Expressionism, the most famous building being Fritz Höger's Chilehaus with its roof built to resemble a ship's prow.
